It has to have been one of the most spectacular sporting events I’ve ever seen live. I was fortunate enough to receive an invite to the Royal Tournament and there was only one event I looked forward to. The Royal Navy Field Gun Competition.

For years I’d seen it on TV, but all of a sudden I was there, watching it live from the second row of the audience.

Half way through the runs, the men on both teams were literally raining with sweat due to the sheer effort they were putting in. You could do nothing but admire each and every member of both crews, regardless of which port you were cheering for.

Disgracefully, the event was cancelled never to run again. At least that is what the Government would have you believe.

It’s time to bring it back. For the pride of the Royal Navy as well as the pride of the nation. Write to your MP and tell them so.
