They are two words that will forever be associated with PC George Dixon MBE.
Dixon of Dock Green was a Police drama that ran from 1955 to 1976 and featured Jack Warner OBE in the title role of PC George Dixon MBE. Not much was made of Dixon’s MBE but it was revealed that he earned it for bravery during World War 2 on the home front.
Warner was ideally cast in the role of Dixon.
A benevolent, father type figure to fresh Constables, as well as his later introduced daughter that DC Crawford, Dixon’s colleague and lodger, eventually ended up marrying.
As well as the long running TV series, that charted evolving Police techniques and tactics, Dixon of Dock Green also spawned a radio drama which was released on the Audible by Amazon platform. The radio drama stayed true to the original TV format and makes for an equally entertaining listen.
