
The Golden Age of Steam all started back in 1825. The age of the steam train passenger railways, was brought to us by the Stockton & Darlington Railway Company.
Initially used to transport coal from local collieries, the S&D Railway was the first to transport passengers. The first passenger service ran from outside the Mason’s Arms in Shildon and was a great affair, with the passengers riding in coal wagons or ‘tubs’.
So when I first heard the song in the video below by Steve Robinson, it immediately hit home to me. It led me to buy his album “Away for the day” which is jam packed with fantastic songs that will bounce around your head for days.
